Benefit Advice At Greenfields

House and money

A new service has been introduced, which allows Greenfields residents to seek advice on which benefits are available to claim.

The service mainly consists of income calculations to ensure that you are claiming all of the help available.  There is also assistance in form-filling.

Access the DirectGov Benefits Adviser calculator*.  This will allow you to work out what you may be entitled to.

If you are having problems paying your rent, you may be entitled to help towards your rent.  Housing Benefit is available to those who are responsible for paying rent, or those who live with a partner who is responsible.

You should qualify for help with all of your rent if you already claim one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Pension Guarantee Credit

If you are not claiming one of the above benefits, you may still be entitled to help, although it may not be paid at the full amount.  However, they do not pay your water charges.

If you think you are entitled to housing benefit, you could get some or all of your rent paid for you. This is organised through the Housing Benefit section at Braintree District Council. You can contact the Housing Benefit team at the Council by calling 01376 552525.

If you are having problem with debt, you can visit our Paying Your Rent section for advice.

This service is free of charge.  It can be arranged so that an appointment can be done either over the telephone, in your local Greenfields office or in your own home, if you would prefer.
