Community Gateway

CGG logo

Community Gateway is a new and innovative way of running social housing. It means true tenant and leaseholder involvement and gives residents a real say in how their housing service is run. We actively encourage tenants and leaseholders to get involved with Greenfields.

Greenfields is a Community Gateway organisation. This means that residents on the Community Gateway Group  make recommendations to the Board, based on tenants and leaseholders' views from all over the district. The Community Gateway Model was first developed by the CCH (Confederation of Cooperative Housing) to create more community involvement within housing associations.

The Community Gateway Model is flexible and can be adapted to suit local circumstances. Therefore, the Greenfields' Structure might be changed as time goes on, to ensure that it is successful at prioritising tenants and leaseholders needs.

What does Community Gateway mean for our residents?

  • Enables tenants and leaseholders to get involved in local decisions about their homes and communities
  • Puts tenants and leaseholders in the driving seat
  • 7 out of 15 places on the Board are for tenants, including 1 leaseholder
  • Tenants and leaseholders can become members of Greenfields, giving them 70% of voting rights at General Meetings
  • 18 tenants and 1 leaseholder can be members of the Community Gateway Group
  • A yearly budget of £358,000 is available to support Community Engagement
  • Extra money is provided for training and other resources to support tenant involvement
  • A Community Fund of £50,000 is available each year so that residents can bid for to support local priorities
  • There are 3 Area Forums centred on Braintree, Witham and Halstead - so that local tenants and leaseholders will be involved in local decision making and setting local priorities

The Community Gateway Group have achieved a large number of successes. The group are continually working towards improving services for all residents.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a member of Greenfields, please email Shaun.Williamson@GreenfieldsCH.org.uk or phone 01376 535400 ext 4114 and ask for the Community Gateway Team.
