As part of our 10th birthday celebrations in November, we’re working with local partners and residents to hold at least 10 community-based events across the District, this year. These events aim to make a real difference in a range of ways.
Greenfields’ Neighbourhood Co-ordinator are tailoring their ‘Make A Difference Day’ to specific areas, with activities including:
- Community Clean-up Days; including gardening and spring cleaning, in Braintree and Halstead
- Communities sharing a meal together, in both Hatfield Peverel and Witham
- A bake-off in Halstead
- Fun family events in Braintree and Witham.
Each event aims to encourage neighbours to build good relationships with each other, to raise awareness of Greenfields and their partners’ services, and to tackle any specific issues in the area.
The first Make A Difference Day was on 3 May at flats on Rifle Hill in Braintree. Led by Greenfields’ Neighbourhood Co-ordinator, Martin Hawes, residents had the opportunity to get stuck into some gardening and “spruce up” their outside communal area, to help promote increased pride and ownership. Barry Eastall, who lives in one of the flats, was very happy to take part:
“I look after the garden all year round but there are some things I can’t do due to a heart condition, so it’s great working with Greenfields to cut the grass around the path and generally tidy the area up. Martin Hawes is so obliging and helpful, and I’m very grateful for his help throughout the years.”
Arron Samson, Greenfields’ Neighbourhood Manager, is keen that each event genuinely improves the lives of residents: “Each event gives us the chance to support our residents in a variety of ways – be it to tidy their gardens, have a good clear-out, get to know their neighbours or just keep their children busy in the holidays! We also want to draw attention to all the services we and our partners offer, so they know that we’re there when they need us.”
The next Make a Difference Day will be a clean-up event in partnership with Essex Fire Service at Holmes Road in Halstead on 19 May. Click on this link to view future events:
