A primary school pupil has officially unveiled a new development of 31 affordable homes created by Greenfields and Gipping Construction.
The event, on Thursday, 13 July 2017, celebrated the completion of the homes off Forest Road in Witham.
The new development was officially opened by Imogen Gardiner, a nine-year-old pupil from Elm Hall School in Witham. She won a competition run by Greenfields to name a road on the site; now called The Spinney. She said: “Spinney is a name for a very small forest. I think this would be a good name, as it’s linked to a forest but not tree names, like the older road names in the area. This is so that people can tell it is new houses.”
The event was also attended by Greenfields’ staff, residents and Board members; as well as representatives from Braintree District Council and Gipping Construction. The site includes ten x two-bedroom houses, one x three-bedroom houses and 20 one-bedroom apartments; with three of the homes being sold at shared ownership and the remainder at affordable rent levels.
Dale Butcher, Greenfields’ Chairman of the Board, said: “We want to improve lives in any way we can, and building homes that enhance and even create communities is very important to us. It was a great pleasure to see so many people join us to celebrate this occasion.”
Ian Finch, who lives in a one-bedroom flat at the development, says:
“My home is absolutely great; the area is so pleasant and quiet. I love that it’s new and there’s nothing to worry about in terms of repairs! I used to live in Surrey with my partner and, when I got cancer, my circumstances drastically changed and I moved here alone. It’s worked out perfectly and it’s a new start. And Greenfields have been really good at keeping in touch – I talk to you all the time.”
Greenfields is holding 10 Make a Difference Days across the District to bring communities together and celebrate our 10th anniversary. A recent event at The Spinney, which included a barbeque and games, led to two next-door neighbours who had never met before becoming friends. Click on this link for a list of future events:
