Spades are officially in the ground as Greenfields Community Housing’s celebrated the start on site of a new development on Spalding Close in Braintree on Wednesday 17 July.
We were joined by Hill Partnerships, who are building the mix of social & affordable rent and shared ownership homes.
The 34 homes are replacing 20 rented and 11 temporary properties, which are no longer sustainable to maintain due to their age and condition. Greenfields has been supporting previous residents to find suitable alternative accommodation and to move into their new homes over the past year. The homes will include 2, 3 and 4-bedroom houses and a 1-bedroom bungalow and are expected to be completed next year.
The new homes were approved by Braintree District Council following a consultation period last year. They will join other developments being built by Greenfields in towns and villages including Witham, Halstead, Colchester, Tiptree and Boreham.
Emma Palmer said: “We’re committed to building nearly 1,800 new affordable homes over the next six years, to help tackle the housing crisis and build safe and strong communities. I look forward to seeing the finished result and the new residents settled into their homes and neighbourhood next year.”
Rob Jack, Regional Director at Hill, said: “We’re proud to be partnering with Greenfields to build new affordable homes for Braintree. The properties will be a selection of sustainable houses suitable for those in need of affordable accommodation. This is the first time we’re working in partnership with Greenfields, and we hope to build this into a longstanding relationship in the future.”
We’ve completed 625 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership across Essex and Suffolk since 2011 and aim to own and manage 9,000 by 2020. See more about our current developments here: Current developments
