Chris Ward, one of our Neighbourhood Co-ordinators, visited residents of Peel Cresent in Braintree earlier this week to hold a Make a Difference Day – one of many across the district. The aim of this event was to gauge the views of residents about their community, promote our support services, and share a cuppa and a cake! Here, Chris tells us why the day was such a success:
“I wanted to give residents the opportunity to join us to talk about what they liked about the area and what could be improved. I also wanted to promote resident involvement opportunities at Greenfields, our job club and our online services; and residents were also invited to help us litter pick.
Lena Butcher, another Neighbourhood Coordinator, and Kevin Mills, an Estate Ranger, helped me throughout the morning. We were lucky enough to have lovely weather and 22 people came out to share their views, enjoy refreshments, help litter-pick and complete a questionnaire, with the opportunity to win a £25 voucher in a prize draw.
It was a fantastic event and residents were very forthcoming with their suggestions. A number of these people indicated that they would be interested in the job club and to volunteer with Greenfields. Someone else suggested arranging an event for residents of Constable House, the local older persons’ scheme, to see if who would like to learn more about our online services and IT, in general. I also had someone interested in litter-picking regularly, and am looking at sourcing some equipment for him.
Congratulations to the winner of the £25 voucher (who wishes to remain anonymous) who was given a choice of providers and opted for Tesco.”
