When Darron Le Rossignol joined Greenfields as a plumber and multi-skill operative, he was enrolled on an NVQ level 2 in plumbing course run by Colchester Institute.
Although Darron, 32, was given a year to complete the qualification, he raced through the ten online tests, passing all but one on his first attempt.
After beginning in April, Darron quickly built up a portfolio showcasing his practical work and became the first to complete the new fast-track NVQ in July – just three months later.
The qualification will help Darron to progress with his career, and he hopes to next tackle a further course and gain gas engineering skills.
Darron thanked Greenfields for funding the course.
He said: “Greenfields has been very good to me – I love it here.”
Rick Boreham, Area Head of Plumbing at Colchester Institute, visited Greenfields House to award a certificate to the “excellent student”.
Daniel Miller, Repairs Manager at Greenfields, added: “Darron has been able to balance his home/working life while studying the technical aspects of the NVQ L2 in plumbing.
“The course did not impact on Darron’s work commitments which is a significant added benefit to the course. Darron has been working as a plumber for a number of years but now has the opportunity to call himself a ‘qualified plumber’.’’
