The local charity that Greenfields staff and volunteers will support in 2019 has been unveiled.

Housing Director Sandra Crosby revealed at our Annual General Meeting on 13 September that Farleigh Hospice will be our Charity of the Year 2019.

Last year, we marked our 10th anniversary by raising a record £11,150 for Macmillan Cancer Support – enough to fund a GP to provide expert and support twice a week for a year.

And this year, we have been supporting mental health charity Mid and North East Essex Mind through an array of events including breakfast fry-ups, a charity leg wax and head shave and two colleagues running a 50 kilometre ultra-marathon across the Stour Valley.

Like last year, staff and volunteers were asked to nominate a charity working in our area and explain why they believed that cause was worthy of our support.

We had 15 nominations for 12 charities, all of which were put to staff and volunteers to vote on. There were 138 votes, and the clear winner was Farleigh Hospice, followed by the First Stop support centre and BASICS Essex Accident Rescue Centre.

The Chelmsford hospice has supported a great many residents and staff, and we very much look forward to supporting them in 2019. Find out more about them here: www.farleighhospice.org
