Generous staff and residents of Greenfields Community Housing have donated an impressive 92kgs worth of food and essentials, following a foodbank appeal.
In August, Greenfields House became a collection point for Braintree Area Foodbank, allowing staff and visitors to drop donations off in our reception.
In addition to the usual food donations, we focused on providing other essentials to local families on low income who have particularly struggled for money during the school summer holidays. Items donated have included toilet rolls, pet food, toiletries and soap powder.
Emma Faulkner, Greenfields’ Financial Inclusion Co-ordinator who led the initiative, said: “We’re so pleased with this fantastic response to the appeal, which will truly help to improve the lives of those who are struggling. My role involves giving advice and guidance to residents who are having difficulty paying their bills, which can involve referring people to the food bank. Their invaluable work provides a lifeline to the community.”
Maggie Drewett, Administrator/Co-ordinator for the foodbank, said: “This year, we’ve seen an unprecedented number of visitors, and your donations will help us to meet the increase in demand that we are now seeing compared to the same period last year. Since April 2018 we have fed nearly 1,700 people, with over 690 of this number being children. This equates to approximately 15,201 meals supplied over the last five months alone. Your generosity has been amazing; thank you.”
Last year, Greenfields’ joint fund with Braintree District Council provided £30,000 over three years to help the Foodbank continue its fantastic work for people living in our district.
In 2017, Braintree Area Foodbank donated 2,733 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis. Find out more about the Foodbank by calling 01376 330694 or clicking on this link: Braintree Area Foodbank
