From film screenings to sweepstakes, Greenfields’ staff, volunteers and partners have raised £4,257 for Farleigh Hospice.

The charity provides hospice care to people affected by life-limiting illnesses across mid Essex, including families, carers and those who are bereaved. They were chosen as Greenfields’ Charity of the Year 2019 following nominations then a vote from Greenfields staff and volunteers.

A quiz night in November last year raised more than £1,000, while the very popular office “Tuck Shop” raked in £1,400. Raffles, bake-sales and a pantomime raised additional funds. And in September, we had a fundraising screening of a film starring Colin Firth playing an ex Commodore who’s now a Greenfields’ Board member.

Greenfields’ Digital Support Co-ordinator, Gemma Ball, has personal experience of the “amazing” service from Farleigh. She said: “My mum was referred to the hospice in summer 2018 for COPD. She quickly deteriorated and was cared for at home by the ‘Hospice at Home’ service until she passed away just before Christmas that year. What they offer is amazing and if it wasn’t for Farleigh Hospice my lovely mum wouldn’t have had her dying wish come true, which was to be at home.”

Debbie de Boltz, Fundraising Manager at Farleigh Hospice, said: “We were thrilled to have been chosen as Greenfields’ Charity of the Year and would like to thank them for the wonderful amount they raised. We rely on the local community to help us raise the £6 million needed annually to continue providing free specialist palliative care and bereavement support to those in need. With the number of people requiring these services growing every year, the generosity of our supporters in the local community is more important than ever.”

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance have been chosen as Greenfields’ Charity of the Year 2020. The aim of the charity is to save lives and reduce or prevent disability for people in Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
