As part of its 10th birthday celebrations in November, Greenfields Community Housing is working with local partners and residents to hold at least 10 community-based events across the District, this year.
A BBQ and games afternoon at new Greenfields development “The Spinney” in Witham on 14 June was attended by around 30 people and encouraged two next-door-neighbours who had never previously spoken to become friends; and five residents at Norah Guilder House are now planning to enjoy regular meals together after Greenfields organised an indoor summer picnic.
There have also been community Clean-up Days in Braintree, Halstead and Earls Colne; which included gardening, spring cleaning, litter-picking and consulting with residents on their suggestions for improvements. Some events have also been attended by Essex Police and Essex Fire Service.
Each event aims to encourage neighbours to build good relationships with each other, to raise awareness of Greenfields and their partners’ services, and to tackle any specific issues in the area.
Arron Samson, Greenfields’ Neighbourhood Manager, is keen that each event genuinely improves the lives of residents: “Each event gives us the chance to support our residents in a variety of ways – be it to tidy their gardens, have a good clear-out, get to know their neighbours or just keep their children busy in the holidays! We also want to draw attention to all the services we and our partners offer, so they know that we’re there when they need us.”
The next Make a Difference event will be a Fit and Fun Fest at Bramble Park in Witham on Tuesday 25 July 2017. Activities include children’s rides & bouncy inflatable attractions.
