An example of our new homes

We’re building a mixture of 34 affordable rent and shared ownership properties to replace 20 rented and 11 temporary homes in Spalding Close in Braintree.

The new homes will include 2, 3 and 4-bedroom houses and a 1-bedroom bungalow, with building expected to begin by the end of the year and be completed next year. We’re supporting current residents to find suitable alternative accommodation and to move into their new homes.

Due to their age and condition the 31 homes being replaced are no longer sustainable to maintain.

Sandra Crosby, Housing Director at Greenfields, feels that the homes will help to regenerate the area: “I look forward to seeing the impact that these new homes will have on the lives of our residents, and the wider community. It’s great that they will be a mixture of size and tenure, with some being for affordable rent and others for shared ownership.”

We’re hoping to involve pupils from local schools in preparing for the new development, including carrying out site safety talks, creating bird and bat boxes and holding colouring competitions.

We’ve now delivered 400 new homes across the Braintree district and Colchester, Elsenham, Dunmow, Saffron Waldon, Stanway, Thaxted, Felsted and Sudbury. We plan to build 450 more by 2020.
