Improvements to the car park, lighting and landscaping around Spa Road shops in Witham took a step forward this month, when the project was granted planning permission.
The work will now go out to tender, and Braintree District Council is looking to start the project before the end of the year.
The refresh of the area around the Spa Road shopping precinct will include better lighting, a rework of the existing carpark layout to include more spaces and accessible parking and landscaping enhancements.
Braintree District Council is working in partnership with Greenfields and has the support of Witham Town Council.
Cllr Wendy Schmitt, Cabinet Member for Environment and Place at Braintree District Council. said: “This area has long deserved some love and attention and the area is well used by residents, shoppers and parents picking up children from school. This work will make the area more accessible and will make it look better and feel safer.”
Sandra Crosby, Housing Director at Greenfields, said: “Local residents have been involved from the very beginning and shared their area’s to help shape the work which is great. These changes should help to improve the lives of people in this community; increasing their pride and security in their surroundings. I look forward to seeing the difference they will make to local residents.”
The project has undergone extensive consultation with the local community.
