Statement – fire safety in Bellway Homes properties

Statement – fire safety in Bellway Homes properties
2nd May 2019 James Calnan

On 1 May, a BBC Watchdog programme highlighted potential fire safety issues in new-build properties developed by Persimmon Homes and Bellway Homes.

The BBC investigation highlighted concerns in properties in Canterbury and West Lothian owned by Bellway Homes, which developed 100 homes owned and managed by Greenfields. We do not own or manage any homes built by Persimmon Homes.

Bellway told Watchdog it was “committed to improvement” and will “investigate and address any raised concerns immediately, where there is perceived to be an imminent danger to persons or property”.

In a further statement, Bellway has said the development in West Lothian “has been constructed using materials and details which are completely different from those used in most of the homes constructed by Bellway in England and Wales”.

Bellway has added: “This construction method does not require the compartmentalisation of the cavity required in the homes in question in Scotland and for this reason we are able to reassure you that your home is not affected by this issue.”
