Benefits advice

Benefits advice

We offer a free benefits advice service to all our tenants, leaseholders and shared owners.

Understanding the benefits you’re eligible to claim

We can help with income calculations to make sure you’re claiming all the different types of benefits you’re entitled to.

If you’re a leaseholder or shared owner and need advice with mortgage interest payments and service charges, we can provide some help and support here too.

If you’d like to speak with an adviser over the phone, email or face to face, please contact us to make an appointment. Get in touch through the information under ‘Greenfields contacts’, in the box on the right.

Universal Credit

Many residents receiving a range of benefits may instead be required to claim Universal Credit. This will affect claimants of working age living in Braintree district.

Universal Credit is paid once a month, which includes housing costs to pay your rent. This money isn’t paid directly to us as your landlord. Unlike Housing Benefit, it is usually paid into your bank, building society or credit union account, so you must pay your rent out of this money.

If you’re making a claim for Universal Credit, please contact us on 01376 535400

Changes to your circumstances

If your circumstances change, you need to report it to ensure that you are receiving the amount you are entitled to and aren’t overpaid money that you will need to pay back.

Depending on the benefit you receive, report any changes in circumstances to:
