Our health and wellbeing service aims to encourage and support our residents, and the wider community, to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Covid 19 Update
We’re continuing to provide support services to our residents remotely. Where necessary, we will carry out essential visits, ensuring that we follow Government guidelines for social distancing and PPE. If you feel you require support, please contact us.
Supporting you to lead a healthy and happy life
Here are some of the support services you can access:
Chair-based exercise classes are primarily for people with mobility issues and long-term health conditions, but they are also open to anyone over the age of 18.
They can improve mobility and prevent falls, as well as encouraging social interaction. Our classes are currently suspended but virtual classes will be coming soon. In the meantime, please take a look at our video demonstrating the exercise here, or our leaflet below. We’re looking for volunteers to join our team of chair-based exercise leaders; who teach classes in several venues across the district. Your training will involve learning how to lead the class by delivering 22 prescribed moderate exercises. Giving up smoking
- 1-2-1 stop smoking support – an advisor can offer an initial assessment and support for up to 12 weeks. For further details visit the Essex Lifestyle Service ‘Stop Smoking’ webpage
Managing your health
- Managing Health Programme – gives help and advice with living with different long-term health conditions, including Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and Diabetes Type 2 non-insulin dependant. To find out more please click on the link in the supporting documents.
Five Ways to Wellbeing Video
Essex County Council’s Five Ways to Wellbeing campaign focuses on five key factors: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give to Others. It gives some great advice and insight on improving your wellbeing through a range of activities and actions, such as volunteering, taking a walk in the country or getting qualifications and learning new skills. The Livewell Campaign works collectively alongside partners that contribute towards the wellbeing of residents living in the Braintree district in order to reduce the cost to the NHS of social care and health. Please visit the Livewell Campaign website to find out more.
