The 12th November 2017 marks 10 years since Greenfields began. We have been doing a range of activities to celebrate, including 10 Make a Difference Days across the District and our leadership team each holding a monthly event to raise money for our Charity of the Year, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Examples of how we have aimed to improve lives in the past 10 years include:

2008

  • The Greenfields Community Fund and Fast Access Fund launches
  • Our Area Forums are set up and launched
  • Our handyperson service launches
  • Our £98m Decent Homes Programme begins

2009

  • Our Customer Service Centre opens
  • Choice-based lettings launches
  • Greenfields House and Witham Area Office open for business

2010

  • We achieve 92% customer satisfaction levels for our Decent Homes programme, placing us in national top 5%
  • We convert a home in Halstead to be extremely green; saving around 80% in fuel bills
  • Janice Yacoob, nominated for Resident Involvement Officer of the Year in the TPAS Connecting People Awards
  • Sheila Vincent, nominated for Tenant of the Year in the TPAS Connecting People Awards
  • Our first Community Action Day (giant litter-pick)

2011

  • We become the first housing association in the Eastern region to achieve Investors in People (IIP) Gold accreditation
  • Staff member wins Mentor of the Year at Housing Hero Awards
  • We’re one of only two housing associations nationally to receive HQN accreditation for Income Management Service
  • We bring all homes up the Decent Homes Standard one year early
  • We’re named the National Training Awards 2011 East of England winner in the Medium Employer Category
  • Our first remodelled older persons’ scheme opens in Halstead
  • Our repairs team become multi-skilled

2012

  • We’re shortlisted for two national Housing Innovation Awards: Most Innovative Use of Renewable Technology and Most Innovative Community Engagement
  • We launch our Workplace Health Champion Programme
  • We become the first housing association in the eastern region to become Investors in People champions
  • We raise £10,000 for Brainwave
  • Greenfields Academy is officially open
  • Grand opening of new Skate Park in Braintree

2013

  • Our first new homes open in Hatfield Peverel
  • We become the only housing association in central England to receive a Health and Wellbeing Award from Investors in People
  • We part-fund transformed woodland space in Braintree

2014

  • We launch our Neighbourhood Action Plans
  • We launch Think Safe, Be Safe programme
  • Greenfields works with Goldies, the “smile charity”

2015

  • We raise record amount for Charity of the Year; with Farleigh Hospice receiving £10,700
  • We raise record amount for Charity of the Year; with Farleigh Hospice receiving £10,700
  • Staff member wins “Outstanding Apprentice” award
  • We’re shortlisted in The UK Housing Awards’ Outstanding Campaign of the Year category for our Domestic Abuse Awareness campaign; which increases reports of Domestic Abuse by 87%
  • We’re 19th in the The Sunday Times Top 100 list of Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For 2015
  • Our From Good to Great Plan is launched
  • A staff member and resident are shortlisted in the Housing Hero Awards for Mentor of the Year and Tenant Lifetime Contribution; with James Martin winning Mentor of the Year

2016

  • We secure an additional £65 million to build 850 homes by 2021
  • We launch our first shared ownership properties
  • We build our first adapted bungalows
  • We launch The Braintree District and Greenfields Community Fund with Braintree District Council

2017

  • We’re shortlisted as Outstanding Landlord of the Year in the UK Housing Awards
  • We’re 11th in The Sunday Times Top 100 list of Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For 2017
  • We celebrate our first 10 years with 10 community events.
