Greenfields Community Housing took over Braintree District Council’s homes in Nov 2007, following a tenant and leaseholder ballot for transfer in December 2006. Greenfields has approx 8000 homes, spread all over the district, which covers Braintree, Witham and Halstead and many surrounding towns and villages. We also have around 435 leasehold properties.

Greenfields was the third Community Gateway Association set up in the country. Community Gateway is a relatively new concept – which means that you have a greater say than usual in decisions that affect your homes and communities. 7 out of 15 Board members are residents and a Community Gateway Group (CGG) has been formed, consisting of up to 18 tenants and 1 leaseholder, to make recommendations to the Board, based on residents’ views all over the district. There are also three Area Forums, made up of residents who decide how to spend £100k per year on environmental improvements in the Braintree, Witham and Halstead. Greenfields is currently carrying out a £98m major improvements plan to homes all over the district. The improvements are being carried out by our two main contractors, Higgins Construction and Connaught Partnerships, and include: new kitchens, bathrooms, central heating, rewiring, doors and windows.

Greenfields has also set up some major new funds to be used for communities in the district. These include: an £11m joint partnership fund with Braintree District Council for major regeneration schemes in the district, and an annual £50k Community Fund that both Greenfields’ residents and the general public can bid for to fund smaller community projects.

At our last Annual General Meeting in Sept 09, our residents voted to support Essex Air Ambulance as their chosen Charity of the Year 2010 and we aiming to raise £7,000.
